Victoria Diocesan President, Oral Report
BC & Yukon 2013 Provincial Convention-
The 65th Anniversary of Saint Patrick’s Council, Campbell River was celebrated in May. The 50th anniversary of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, CFB Comox was also celebrated in May. Certificates were presented to these Councils.
Our new Diocesan Spiritual Advisor, Fr. Mel Bayron of Ascension Parish in Parksville has ably served as our spiritual advisor for the past year. We look forward to his presentations, and we are pleased with his abilities, and support of members and the Council.
We have been using the lunch hours at our Interim meetings as a way for our chairpersons and executive to get to know the members of their team throughout the Island. For example, the spiritual chairpersons of each parish Council who are attending, are invited to meet with the Diocesan spiritual chairperson. They meet for information, discussion of concerns, sharing of successes, guidance of each other, and meeting new people. We will be working to get the process communicated through a handout, and have the chairpersons at their tables earlier.
The Catch the Fire presentation is warming up. We have had 167 attendees in the past year, which is close to 17% of our members. We are pleased to be revitalizing the interest and vitality of our councils in this way. We have seven presentations of Catch the Fire booked for the fall. We are dividing our presenters into north and south teams, with allowances for overlap or other commitments. This will free us up to have two presentations on the same date, and we will find computers and projectors for the program. The idea of bringing new members and new executive to these presentations continues to be emphasized.
Our upcoming Events include:
We continue to hope for new members in abundance, including new Canadians, as Catch the Fire takes hold of the imagination and mission of the Catholic ladies in our Diocese. We continue to hope that we will be able to operate as teams throughout the year, as we do when we are writing reports at the end of the year.
We hope to enhance our spiritual life by stepping out of our comfort zone, seeking inspiration, and finding new ways of praying and knowing our faith.
We hope to be enthusiastic in all that we do.
We want to Keep the Fire Burning, as we Let Our Faith Shine.
Respectfully submitted, Kathy Weswick
