Provincial Treasurer – Suzanne Eng – Communique 1  August 30, 2016

Many of you may have met me at the Provincial or Diocesan convention in the past.  I am a bit of a “convention junkie”.  I love the sisterhood and the spirit that floods the rooms at every convention.  I have worked as a professional accountant most of my adult life.  I grew up and still live in the lower mainland.  I’m a widow, with three adult children.  No grandchildren so far, but I am hoping that one of these days I will have at least one grandchild.

I began my CWL career 21 years ago.  I have served as parish and diocesan treasurer, parish and diocesan resolutions chair, Past President and Diocesan Communication chair.  As no one was willing to run for the position of provincial treasurer, I accepted the appointment in June.  With God’s help, I’ll do my best to take care of the Provincial finances.

Here we are in mid-August, and throughout BC and the Yukon the farmers are harvesting crops.  This will, of course, continue until late in the fall.  Jesus talked a lot about harvests and crops.  He encouraged us to share our abundance with our neighbours.  Jesus, Himself, shared His abundant life with us in the Eucharist.  So I hope that all of you will encourage your councils to continue that sharing.

Welcome to all Diocesan Treasurers.  I hope to get to know you over the next two years.  Even though I have worked in accounting all my life, I’m still learning new things about CWL.  So I’m sure you are in the same position.  National CWL has produced a really useful booklet – The Guideline for Treasurers.  It sets out a lot of what our parish counterparts need to know in plain English.   I encourage each of you to make sure that you have a copy and that your parish treasurers each have one too.  It can be downloaded from the National website, www.cwl.ca, under the Resources tab.

When you are planning your workshops and meetings for the coming year, remember that there is a Provincial League Development fund to help with the costs of speakers, resource materials and so forth.  The application form is on the provincial website at www.bcyukoncwl.com.

There are several workshops already developed by your provincial and national councils that you can access by checking the website.  And we are always looking at ways to help our members learn and grow.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your job as treasurer.  I’ll do my best to address these as quickly as possible.

I hope you all have a wonderful fall season, filled with a happy mix of faith, fun and fulfillment.  May our Lady of Good Counsel bless us all.
